Instagram Takedown: @tqfc.clubhouse

📅 Date: November 2025
📍 Region: Netherlands (EU)
📱 Platform: Instagram
🔗 Account: @tqfc.clubhouse

In November 2025, Meta removed the account @tqfc.clubhouse, alongside dozens of other queer accounts in the Netherlands. Despite multiple appeals, the account has not been reinstated. Meta cited its “Community Standards” as justification, without providing meaningful explanation or a clear path to remedy.

What was TQFC Clubhouse?

TQFC Clubhouse was a queer, trans, and women‑led cultural space in the Netherlands reclaiming football as a place of visibility, joy, and belonging. It existed as a real, physical meeting place where people gathered to play, watch football, share stories, and build community offline.

The project challenged the assumption that football belongs to men, centering queer and marginalized people who are routinely excluded from sport and public life. Its online presence functioned as a critical connector for this community, sharing events, exhibitions, screenings, and gatherings.

Why this matters

The removal of @tqfc.clubhouse is not an isolated incident. It reflects a broader pattern of platform enforcement that disproportionately impacts queer and other marginalized communities. These decisions do not only silence voices online; they disrupt real‑world community spaces, relationships, and access to visibility.

Under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), platforms operating in Europe are required to provide transparency, due process, and safeguards against discriminatory enforcement. The lack of meaningful explanation or effective appeal in this case raises serious concerns about how these protections are applied in practice.

Wider context

With major global football tournaments approaching, including FIFA events, visibility for queer communities in sport and beyond matters more than ever. Platform erasure plays a powerful role in shaping who is seen, supported, and allowed to belong, both on the field and in broader cultural spaces.
